Brian,
Good Luck this weekend! I have seen Sky's pedigree. She has exceptional field lines, she was bred to hunt/retrieve. Glad to see her doing what she was bred to do. Have Fun! I'm hoping to get Rock a JH title this year... we have been training, he has a Few obstacles yet to overcome. But, we sure are having a blast and learning lots. This past weekend... water marks and live fliers. He was definitely in his element.

Hey I had thought about straping pizza crust to pigeons for training bo lol....He does great on most game birds but Pigeons are cheap and they tend to return home after use. However Bo doesnt look at pigeons as birds lol.

Not being familiar with your dog and where the training is. Just make sure he is properly introduced to gunfire before taking him out to a lot of field events. You might (not with all dogs) create a gun shy issue. It took me a long time to get Bo over his because he was not properly introduced to gunfire by his breeder :-(

Thanks so much Barb,
Yes she does have quite the pedigree for field trials, her mom, is just a couple passes away from her next title level and they keep working with her to get it. Of course DIESEL has his own place in history as the first 3 time Grand Master Pointing Retriever in the country. We keep hoping to get more point out of SKY and I think it is coming. Getting these first legs should be a breeze for her, if the rules are accurate. Going on from there may require a little extra professional work (training) which she has had in the past. We'll see!
Thanks for the encouragement, we are looking forward to the trials.

Good advice....maybe I will just leave him home for this event. I'll be shooting ducks and might not be able to be with him much this time. I don't want him to get scared right off.
That also gives me a good excuse to take him out and do some shooting.
Barb....when are you getting your pup??

Very good point! Gun dogs should begin training with loud sounds when they are very small pups, usually when they eat.

Huh... thought you were going to watch this FT. Didn't know you were a gunner.

Re: Hunt Test this Weekend
Update on the Hunt Test for SKY
She retrieved both birds from the field portion in the morning and later that afternoon did a super job in the water. Her time for retrieval of the water birds was 1 second slower than the field birds which is pretty amazing to me.
Long story short, Sky passed her first trial torward her SHR, now she has three more to go to get her title. We are so excited, she did a great job and showed the drive that she alwasy does on the dock. We're looking forward to Saturday for another UAD event.
We'll see everyone there.
Barb, I'm jealous, there is nothing as sweet as puppy breath, and there is nothing like the unconditional love of a new puppy. Enjopy it while it lasts. I agree thanks for the puppy fix!!!!

Re: Hunt Test this Weekend
The pup's lines that I'm getting is loaded with Field Champions. His Sire is a FC NAFC and 5 of his littermates are all FC NAFC. Rock only has those lines on his Sire's side. When I formally introduce the little guy... I will count up all the FC's in his pedigree.

CONGRATS!! I can only image that this SR level Hunt Test was a breeze for Sky! Looking forward to hearing about her upcoming trials and when she receives her SHR Title. Way to go!!
Now I'm jealous... bet you guys had a blast... other than the weather conditions. Wished we lived closer. I would have loved to come out and watch SKY do her thing
