Please let me also add that leaving a video camera alone on a tripod is a very dangerous thing to do....especially around crowds. You never know who will bump into it....move it out of their way....stand in front of it. You need an operator for a video camera just like you do a still photo camera. Otherwise, it's a crapshoot what your video will look like.....if you get one at all.
If you aren't planning on leaving the camera unattended....if you are planning on having an operator....please ignore my advice and continue with your regularly scheduled program.

they have a bunch of tripods, including a Cannon and the prices look reasonable.

I also have a smaller one that adjust to about five feet... but that's not really tall enough for dock events.
