Ultimate Air will send dogs to Purina Qualifiers in 2009

Ultimate Air Dogs has been chosen for the 3rd straight year to provide dogs for Purina's Incredible Dog Challenge. We will post how the dogs will be chosen in the next few weeks! I want to thank Purina for picking UAD and for sponsoring Sparky for the 6th consecutive year. Sparky and I were chosen again to be part of the Purina Incredible Dog Team which includes 8 frisbee teams and 1 dock jumping team. Milt

Very cool. There are a lot of great dogs and handlers that are apart of UAD and we will be watching to see who gets to go this year.

What is the criteria for qualifying? Who has qualified before and how did you finish?

The qualifying criteria last year was based on "Purina Rounds" held at certain events. They were run like a regular Splash, but with three jumps each. The dog with the longest jump won and thus qualified for a spot to Regionals. From there, you needed to win Regionals and then you were eligible to go onto the Finals.

Here are the teams who qualified last year... (teams in bold are those who actually ended up competing) The events used were a variety of setups... both in and outdoor, long and short dock, and one lake event. I don't know if the same qualifying criteria will apply or not this year.

Robert Weiss & Midnight: 21'10"
Courtney Graham & Gauge: 18'7"
Joann Chronister & Rebel: 18'6"
Perry Ludwig & Lily: 19'7"
Patrick Moultrup & Duke: 22'8" (placed 4th at Regionals)
Ron Parker & Dakota: 25'2" (placed 2nd at Regionals)
Alisa Wayland & Colby: 19'0" (placed 3rd at Regionals)
Jason Schlottman & Wrigley (may have been changed to '09 qualifier?): 22'10"

The two "last chance" qualifiers at the FL Regionals were:
Scott Wayland & Parker
Michael Pastrana & Ilio

If you want the full Purina round results from last year, you can go under the Archives section on the main site, select '07-'08 scores/stats, and download the titles count. The scores are all listed under the Purina tab of the document.

Before ya all get too excited, lol, Gauge, Rebel, Colby all qualified on the short dock (just in case you thought those jumps looked short )

Actually, there are a few different regionals... not just one. From what I've seen in the past, they tend to always run them in the same states.

Good luck to everyone who decided to go for it! Should be fun this year... I know it was a blast last time. FL was great... we even did a SplashDogs event while we were down there, too.

I think we paid more money to do the Purina Round. You also had to have x number of jumps above so many feet to be allowed to enter. You could acheive the qualifications at the same event as the Purina Round.

Yes, Wrigley won the Purina round in Cincy last year but we got the un-invite to Florida from Carson/Purina. We were very excited. Our bags were packed and ready to go until we got the final say from Milt. Remember, they had invited too many people. Now, I learn they had two last chance qualifiers.

Milt said the win would count for 2009.

So maybe you can put me and Wrigley on the 2009 pre-qualifiers list?

Looks like Cincy will again be our first event for the new year. Too bad that we do not live in northern Indiana.

Yup, Alisa... the two "last chance" spots have always been available to those who win them on Friday for each of the Regionals events. Pre-qualifier numbers are limited... but, if you don't make it in that way, you can make the drive anyway for a chance at one of the last chance spots. Of course, there's no guarantees of making it into the running either way. Things may be changed this year as well for pre-Q requirements anyway. Purina needs to update their site with info on this year's (and the last couple year's) events.

Here's what I have heard. 2 regional Purina Qualifiers, one will be in California and the other will be in Indiana. Dates are sometime in the Summer. More to follow!

Oh... one that is actualy some what close. Maybe Rajah could have an on day and get a walk on spot! I can dream right!

So our b-ball team is down this year so we could really use the dogs to lift our spirits. However, the Lady Hoosiers did put it on Purdue!!!

Indiana? Maybe I'll get to an event this year unless it is way up north.

Hey maybe if we qualify Sky can throw down some more 27's. She already has a best to the nose according to the group that runs the event of 28'5". But that is not official, just in practice.

I wonder what Meadow would jump to the nose with that long body of hers? She's almost as tall as I am from her hind legs.
