Another question...do all lure coursing events have obstacles? I know a few people said the group that put it on at mutt strut always sets up their course with obstacles, just wondering if all events (like the UKC ones) will have jumps and things?

I don't think actual lure coursing uses obstacles. The lure coursing at the Mutt Strut event was done by a group that does it for fun. They set it up as a loop course and put in obstacles such as small hurdles, hoops, and a tunnel to make it fun for the dogs. It was not a competition. The UKC Lure Coursing is set up as a competition for sight hounds and for other dogs it's more of a fun run with the ability to earn points for titles.

No obstacles. It is more the sighthound lure coursing with all-breed added. Breeds other than sighthounds run alone and can earn basic titles as of now. It's a brand new program so if there's a lot of all-breed interest, the titles may further develop. Sighthounds are bred to run together, so it's not usually a problem with them. I personally would not want my dogs racing other strange dogs b/c I think that's just asking for trouble. I like the way it's set up.

I think there is a club trying to set up lure coursing at the Kalamazoo show, which is unfortunately the same weekend as River Days I believe. There's a conformation show, obedience, and weight pull the same weekend so there's a lot going on!

Anyone that's not going to River Days, and interested in lure coursing, it's official---there will be lure coursing at the show in Kalamazoo!! Three days of it in fact! It's June 18-20, and there will also be conformation, rally, obedience, and weight pull. It's all at the Kzoo fairgrounds.

Here's the event listing if anyone's interested:

Yes I have to agree lure coursing is a blast!! Ellie Mae tried it at Mutt Strutt and I think she did pretty well she is also pretty fast, but when the rag (squirel) at the end of your run they drag it into this tiny tube like so the dogs can not get to it, But Ellie, she was trying her hardest to get it , like I know it is in there pleas let me have it. Not sure if this was a full course or not.
Glad to hear Lola and Carley and Oscar all had a good time.
I would like to see this turn intoa great competiton sport for the dogs what great fun.
