Conformation show in MI

Just wanted to let everyone know there is a UKC conformation show coming up in Whitmore Lake, MI, and it will offer altered classes. So, if anyone has a registered altered dog and would like to try showing, this would be a good opportunity! I'm going to take Oskar and try it out again. Could be fun! This is for dogs with full UKC registration, not LP dogs.

Sara Pretty sure Marta will be there trying out the puppy class. Lisa should be there with her. Make sure you say hi and I am sure she will give you some pointers of you want any

We will be there with Phoenix. And possibly do Weight Pull with Tundra. They are now offering CGC testing as well at this show.

We are going to have some steep competition as Rabecca also has a male GSP pup who will be showing. As Phoenix is black she has less liklyness of placing but we will see. But Phoenix and Legend are both in the 6+ month class for pups. How old is Marta? Is she going to be shown all 4 shows?

What you have going for you is someone who is seasoned in showing dogs too. As I am not! LOL!

nope marta will just show sat i think and she will be true puppy...i am sure you will do fine

I am sure she will also. As long as we all have fun that is what matters. If I don't take puppy with the GSP's I will root for Marta that is for sure!

Weather pending, Marta will be there for Saturday Novice puppy (under 6 months old) only. We will see if she holds up to the surrondings or not her lack of early socialization may get the best of her. Depending on the other HWV entries I may enter Breeze since one judge is new to her.

Is the pup Rebecca is bringing the same one she had at the Dec. Kalamazoo shows?

As far as I know Rebecca will be bringing the same pup as last time. But we don't talk much so last I heard this is what she is doing.

Our girl got some big girl pants tonight as she FINALLY went up and down all the steps on her very own!! She was so proud of herself she then decided that maybe she could tell Breeze what to do. She learned that was a no go

I am waiting tell the first time she tried to tell Bo what to do. Well I will be waiting for phone calls so I know how everyone did.

Are there specific events for LP??

I would love to try it out with Hunter - sounds like a lot of fun!!

I am not sure what the rules are on the altered class but I would think as long as they are registerable and purebred then you should be able to get a full registration. I believe this event has temp lpstomg at the event. If not there are fun matches. The one I held only required that the dog be purebred as you need a standard to judge them against.

UKC rules read as follows:
Dogs enrolled in the LP Program must be spayed or neutered and, if accepted, are eligible to compete in obedience, agility, weight pull, dock jumping, dog sports, hunting programs, and terrier races; however, they are not eligible for conformation events.

The only UKC events being offered at these Whitmore lake shows are conformation events, so no there would not be any available for Hunter. However they are having a CGC (AKC event) test where any dog can be tested.
As for UKC in general they offer many events for a LP registered dog...weight pull, rally, agility, obedience, UAD, HRC, pointing dog, ect.... so while this event are not at these shows we are speaking of there is still much to do wit ha LP dog in UKC.

So how did everyone do? We certainly had a blast at the conf, wpull, and obed event we did down here in VA this weekend. Hope things went equally well for our friends in MI.

Glad to hear things went well in VA. I have always wanted to make it down there for those shows..maybe one year.

With this event it is something that you would need the dog to have a pedigree on file with UKC. I would love it if you guys came out and watched. I will now be showing two dogs that weekend. So I am going to be busy! :-)

Ah right... for Whitmore Lake. We were pondering going but it doesn't look like there are many GSDs entered (as of now, at least). We'll see what the numbers look like later and what my work schedule is like.

Lisa, the VA Total Dog Challenge events are DEFINITELY worth making the trip down for. Evan runs a great event and it is wonderful to have multiple sports to compete in (of course, we did all three). The atmosphere and crowd is very nice and it is all very well run. There is also food on site, very cool product vendors, a great raffle, and the photographer who did both events this year takes some great pics as well. Evan even arranged to have unloading services for free, where you could pull up along the building and help was available to take all your stuff in on big carts. The building is also very nice, plenty of room for the four conf rings and lots of crating space. Obed was outside in the sun (except for one day last month when it was moved inside to a ring upstairs due to some rain) and wpull is held outside under a large vestibule off the main building, also with some extra room for wpull dogs to be crated between pulls.

Another thing I really like about the VA TD Challenge events is that Total Dog Awards are offered on BOTH days. Many events, on the other hand (even Premier!) only offer it on one day (typically Saturday) which I think is a major bummer... especially with how much UKC likes to promote Total Dog and the "our dogs do stuff" philosophy.

Can you just show up any time Saturday for the CGC test?

Yes you can.
