Does anyone know where to find custom fitting neoprene vests? It seems to be a problem to find vests that actually fit the girls. If I get something that fits their deep chests then the body of the vest is huge. If it fits in the body then I can't get it to close around the chest. Any thoughts?? I've tried Cabelas and Bass Pro already. huh? The pond is getting quite cold and Meadow doesn't have the thick coat that Sage does. She swims and then shivers, but won't stop swimming, lol.

We have the same problem with pointers. They seem to be made primarily for a lab build.

A lot of people find a pattern and make their own! IF you're handy with a needle/sewing machine, maybe it would be worth it to go that way! Golly Gee!

I don't think K-9 Topcoats makes neoprene vests... they have fleece stuff and that thinner lycra vests and body suits. Nothing for swimming in except the lycra stuff, which isn't going to offer the warmth that thicker neoprene would.

Anyway... if you can find larger vests somewhere, I'd be interested in knowing about them, too. I have some that "sort of" fit (would probably be fine on your girls, but are rather tight on my boys).

i have the same problem with mavrick i had to cut down so much between his front legs that theres only about 2 inches of mateterial and its huge aroung his waist

I have the K-9 topcoats for competition, but they don't make the neoprene vests.

Seems this is a problem for quite a few people. If I find anything I will post it.

Check for a local foam manufacturer/retailer in your area. They often sell neoprene. That's how I got some.
One of the places nearby sells sheets and half sheets of different thicknesses.

Beth, did you check with Beth Edge in GR? I believe that she made one or more for at least one of her dogs. She is the lady that makes sled harnesses (She is off 4 Mile Road).

Angela, my Mom will have to tell you a very old but funny story about Beth Edge's husband back from the sled dog racing days.

I actually ended up getting vests at Gander Mountain, however they will need modifications. I am going to have to cut out some of the front leg holes because there is a bit too much material there. I may also have to take them in at the seam that connects the neck and leg. They do however have an angled cut which is better than the old Cabelas one that I have that used to hit my old Chessie's back legs. These also have the zipper and neoprene. I looked at Gander Mountain last year but they were all out. I got M an XL and Sage an L. We'll see how they work, they were looking like I was torturing them when I took them into the store to try them on. They are a bit snug in the chest, but I think that's how they are supposed to fit?????

We like the Gander Moutain one for Moose too. But it is only for jumping not for hunting. When we have used them on actual hunting trips they rub raw under the arms.....I was wondering if some "sheep skin" around the arm holes would help that?

The sheepskin might help. I'm just cutting the part the rubs out since I'm only using it for swimming.

Yeah we cut ours out too but with our GSP's there range of motion when hunting with their legs is VERY LONG so it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get it all cut away to there is no rubbing! Maybe I will try and find some sheepskin. :-)

Yep, Kel, I don't think they come in Ginormous size for those big boys of yours. Funny how they don't think dogs that large need them :idea: What an untapped market.

Lol, yea... they have to SQUISH into them. You have to fight with the zipper to get them shut, and then their chests are compressed. You make me laugh ti Good thing my mom can sew... lol. I think maybe we'll just cut them up and use them for wpull harness padding or something...

Thank you. I gave them a call, Brian. The website doesn't list larger size measurements, but they did give them to me over the phone. (The XXX size might fit Kel's boys.) For those interested:
