Matt - We have an SLR and it is still very difficult to get good pics indoors. We usually just take video indoors now.

I think the only ones that I have to post are going to be for the non-jumping contest. I have some really good shots of jumps if they were not blurry. I know Eric got some good ones. We did an unintended tag team on a shot (I believe it might have been Rock) and it looked pretty cool when he showed it to me.

I have some reallt great pics of the jumps. I was having trouble with the dark single colored dogs (black, brown). I would shoot one and it would be in focus anf fine, then I would shoot another WITHOUT touching the focus ring and it was as if the dog was about 3 feet too close. Drove me crazy all weekend. I took over 500 pics and most of them came out. Now I have to sort thru them to see which ones to post.

If anyone wants pics of their dogs, send me a PM. I will send them to you to post on your website or print out. I think I have pretty much everyone.

Eric took a good pic of Team Rocketdog that he showed me. It was Kristy and ROcky on the dock, and me in my Team ROcketdog shirt standing next to the pool taking a pic.

The trick I have found for using my SLR to take indoor pics is to use a very fast lens. I use a 50mm 1.8f lens. My zoom lens is too slow to really use very well indoors and I'm too cheap to get a faster zoom lens right now.

Ya I got some decent stuff on Sunday. It seemed brighter in there to me than Novi/GR.

I wish we would have been able to come for more of the event but still had a blast. What a fun venue to have an event and hopefully we are back there again next year. As Milt said at one point the event looked like a success with tons of people walking through. Hard to say if they were buying anything though.

I will get my photos together at lunch and post them. We got home around midnight and just fell into bed.

I know what you mean. It can be very frustrating at times.

I have this lense but find the depth of feild to be quite frustrating at anything but artistic portraits. I normally use my 75-300 but leave it at the 75-80 end so I can get F4.0 out of it. My camera will do 3200 ISO and that is basically my saving grace at F4.0

I tried to use my 35-80 but I couldn't get enough f stop without slowing the shutter speed down too much. I had my 50mm lens at between 500 and 640 speed with a 2.2 f stop. I was using 1600 ISO - as high as mine goes. 3200 would have allowed me to use the other lens. I do have a 2X magnifier for the 50mm lens, but from where I was at it was too much to allow me to keep everyone in frame. I had a hard time to not cut dogs heads off if they went vertical (Jazzie).

The 2x magnifier should cut your fstops in half. On a 2x you loose one stop from what your lens says it is. Maybe all the photographers would want to get together and get a White Lightning flash and multiple controler. http://www.white-lightning.com/ These are high powere flashes that you can bounce off the sealing. I used to use them for basketball games a lot. You bounce it so you arent hitting the athlete (dog) in the face with a flash. A 1.8 aperture setting gives you very little depth of field. If you pan with the dog and dont care about the rest of the picture having motion blur you can get away with a slower shutter speed and gain some depth of field. Luckily most of the dogs jump down the center of the dock so 5' depth of field 1.8-2.2 aperture setting is workable but not easy to get crisp shots.

Yeah, I was fighting with the shallow depth of field for the whole event. The multi-colored dogs as well as the light colored dogs all had good shots. It was the dark colored dogs I had the most trouble with. I tried to use the magnifier for a few shots, but I didn't like it indoors. It will do much better outdoors. As far as the flash, I don't like to use them indoors for things like this. It gives an un-natural color to everything. I have over 500 pics to sort thru and a lot of dogs I don't recognize, so it could be a few days before I post much in the way of pics.

Thanks you Jim, that's what I say too. You should see my garage... I think the camera is set for now with the exception of a good external flash. Speaking of HDTV... Those HD quality hard disk camcorders are coming down in price...hmm. Let me see what kind of deal I can find...

I have lots more I will post up tonight. I think i have mutiple pics of everyones dogs.

Heather, I will put your pics all on CD for you. I think I have 40+ of your dogs alone.

Thom, I have a few good ones of Bo I will post tonight as well.

If any other people want to see pics of their dogs, let me know and I will put them up. If it's not one I know, I will need to know what collar they wear during competition. Some of teh yellow, brown, and balck ones start to blur together after a while...
