UV Practice Rig Empty UV Practice Rig

Post by TR75 Sun Mar 16, 2008 5:47 pm

If we go to any events this year Golly Gee! we may start doing some UV since Jake has always had a high pop off the dock. I finally bought some items yesterday to throw together a practice rig similar to Kel's. I was wandering around Lowes (while waiting on my Jeep to get serviced across the parking lot) and I found an extension pole that must be used for painting and scraping. I bought that and a few pvc pieces. Today I picked up the clips and shoelaces. For about $20 I created this....

UV Practice Rig Empty Re: UV Practice Rig

We won't be going to Cincinnati even though (at 3 hours away) it will be the closest event for us this year. We are going to wait for the outdoor events as Jake just doesn't care for indoor ones.

I would be happy to make you one though and we can figure something out if need be.

The only issue that I have with this rig is that it wants to turn down because of the weight of the pvc. I assume any rig like this has that problem.

I need to get my boy to focus though Golly Gee! . When I was pointing at the bumper the other day he thought I was pointing to a cat, squirrel or bird in the yard and he took off. huh?

Hey Matt,

Our's would try to turn down (rotate in your hands) also when we first made it. We solved the slipping issue by wrapping the pole points our hands rest over with hockey tape, however. It works great. Ultimate Air Elation

As for the focus issue... those type of rigs tend to be WAY easier when you have a helper... they hold the rig, you hold your dog and direct their attention. Maybe it's time to buddy up with the neighbors, lol.

Yay for hockey tape! It solves all sorts of dog sport dilemmas. Only thing is, Kel's brother Brent has to carefully guard his supply.
