Looking to get involved in dock jumping Empty Looking to get involved in dock jumping

I'm looking to get my 3 year old Malinois into dock jumping. We are currently involved in French Ring and UKC Service Dog Association (protection/police). We have our CGC and going for the TDI and TT but I want to make him as well rounded as possible. I feel like this would be a great sport to get involved in. I live in the Lansing area in Michigan. Anyone know of where I could go to for help in starting a new dog or a pool/pond with the set up for practicing? Thank you for any advice anyone can send this way!

If you are coming to the Premier, there may be some open dock time at one of the pools between splashes. You could give it a try then. There are a few Mals who play (Milt has one Ultimate Air Elation ) and do quite well. Docks near Lansing I do not know, but there is one in the Romulus area that is open for practice if you want to drive. It would be about an hour trip from Lansing.

Thank you very much. I'll look into the place in Romulus. You wouldn't happen to know if they have anyone on hand to give pointers/some advice or do you just rent pool/pond time? Last year at the premier was the first time I had a chance to watch some dock jumping and brought about my interest. I figured Kriger loves swimming and will launch over any obstacle you put in his way... why not mix the two?

Pat Currey owns the facilty in Romulus and I'm sure he would be happy to help you out. He has Mals himself, too, and trains for SAR and Customs. His facilty is set up for a wide variety of sports and work competition and practice. They have a dock jumping club there now, along with the new Iron Dog competition in the works for this year, which will combine dockjumping, weight pull, and tug-of-war against a weight scale.

Heather and Anna (they have AmBulls and Pits) are there often, and I'm sure they would be happy to help you out as well. Or Anne (who replied above) I believe still goes from time to time and she is always a great help to newbies as well. Sweet!

Thank you everyone for all the advice/info! I now have on board another person from our club here that now is looking to get her groenendael involved in dock jumping. Both of us have a French Ring trial coming up in late June but as soon as that's over we are going to make a date to go down to Pat's. Would anyone like to join? I think it would be fun and very informative for us beginners if we had some sage advice, that and it would be fun to get a bunch of us together and meet. Anyone that is interested either get a hold of me on here or can call me at 517.930.0330

Depending on the date/time, I might be in town to meet up with you. We can have a Shepherd dock day. Just kidding! I used to go out to Pat's a lot (even before he owned the place for SAR work), but recently moved to VA so I'm only out there when we happen to visit every so often or for events.

Probably Heather and Anna are out there most often, as Pat's business is one of their sponsors. I can PM you their contact info if you'd like, or I'm sure Pat could get it to you.

Yea if you could get me some contact info that would be great. I now have 5 handler/dog teams from Lansing that are most likely in on going on what ever day we decide on.

Sending you a PM w/her contact info now...

Also, I just noticed your signature with Capital City Dog Sport Association listed. I know several people in that group (Cheryl, Lori, Carole, Kathy, Nick) as we've been to several events together and Ace is starting wpull now. So, if you need to know who I am you can ask them about the girl with Baako, Jack Tar, and Aro (they haven't met Scot). We've been to some conf, wpull, and multi-sport events together.
