Hot News Rocky is OK

Post by bectayjam Mon Jun 22, 2009 5:33 pm

Took Rocky to DR & dog Chiropractor. Rocky is ok, he had to have his back adjusted something that should have been done a long time ago and he had a small pull to his left hind leg muscle. The back injury is something she said has been going on for quite some time. This kind of injury is common for active dogs that do jumping and agilty. Good thing he will heal quick due to him having so much muscle mass. He was loving having his back adjusted he about feel asleep with the back rub afterwards. LOL Then he was jumping around like a new pup after she got him all adjusted. He gets another treatment Thursday then maybe one more after that. Then we should only have to take him once every 2 to three months as long as he is dock jumping. They couldn't believe all the muscles he has. Checked all legs and said he is strong as a OX. He is feeling so good that he is under my desk snoring. LOL Sleep Also him crawling under our bed could have helped cause his back to get out of wack. So make sure your dogs don't squezze under your bed or anywhere else.

Yes it was great for him. He didn't know what to think to begin with but was in heaven once it got started. Got some muscle relaxers for him for night time to help with spasms

Becky-I am glad Rocky is doing ok. I didn't know that he was hurt. How did you find a Doggie chiropractor. and if you don't mind me asking how much was and adjustment? I know my human chiropractor is 40 a visit. I wonder what a doggie chiro gets.

Aro loves his chiropractor! Probably your best bet is to ask your vet for help in finding one. In some states chiropractors can be licensed to treat both human and animal patients, in other states they can not.
I forget which state you are in, Steve, but you could also contact your state's chiropractors' organization (or, perhaps, its licensing board).
Forty bucks sounds right.

Hot News Re: Rocky is OK

Post by bectayjam Tue Jun 23, 2009 9:07 am

Good morning Steve,

Meagan (foxonfire) is the one that was telling us about Chiroprators for dogs as well as Frank & Kathy. We never knew they had such a thing out there. I found this one on the internet Jacksonville on had 2. I researched both and choose the one that had more experience. Rocky had to see the regular vet there which was $30.00 then the first adjustment was $60.00. All follow up treatments will be $40.00. I found one that does VOM ( Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation) which is pretty much the same thing that a human chiroprator does with the door stopper looking thing. ( I had it done and it feels great LOL) It is less advasive and the dogs recover faster. Rocky wasn't to keen to it when she first started, but was loving by the time she was done. She went over alot of ways to rub Rocky down that will also help him warm up for jumping and help from future injuries. She wants us to see if he will jump Wednesday night so when we go in Thursdsday with him she can see which muscle he needs more attention to with his jumping. He had gotten pumbled about a month ago by a great dane and we think that may have been the start of this injury then the slip on the dock finished it. Crawling under our bed didn't help none either. Too instead of Rocky getting 2 and 3 hours of play and practice a day we are to cut him down to about an hour. That ones going to be easy, yeah right LOL.

OK, I am going to need to know those rub down moves to help warm up Sophie's muscles, you can give a seminar. She is have a tough time with her back left leg. When she runs hard, she will start to limp and favor her other leg. This happens to when its raining out or bad weather. It usually goes away after she moves around a bit. I guess it like she gets stiff. Thanks for the info. I am going to look one up on the net for my area.

Hot News UPDATE

Post by bectayjam Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:19 pm

Rocky is getting back to his old self and jumping again. We were able to practice him yesterday and he was all about it like he usually is. He didn't want to stop jumping but we made him. He had several jumps over 20ft and one we know was well over 22ft. He looked better than what I think I've ever seen him jumping. So this is all a plus. He was checked by the DR and everything looked good. Nothing out of place and Rocky was enjoying his rub down today. We will take him right before we go to Ashville for a check up. She said we can start him back jumping vertical again just limit his jumping time and build him back up to how he was jumping, which was when Greg got tired of throwing his Wubba. Its great to see the boy getting back to himself and his confidience coming back.

YAY!!! Rocky is all better. Now we have to get Sophie all better. She has a appointment thurs to get her back leg checked. She has been limping and not putting weight on it after she runs. Hopefully, nothing serious.
