For those of you that have lost a pet that was more then just a dog from a shelter will understand what is happening in our house today. Homer, my rotti-coonhound mix that many of you met at the 2007 Cherry Fest and other events, passed away 1 year ago today. This was sudden, unexpected and tragic. Laying on the floor feeling as if my heart was being stabbed with a knife knowing I was losing my first dog and Colby best friend. Homer was a 79 lb 31 inch ball of love. He would let the burglers in, pack up our valuables, carry them to his car and then jump in waiting for a ride all with his whip of a tail knocking everything off the tables and leaving bruises on his legs. He was a HUGE lapdog and was even more excited to see me then Colby and Brie if that is possible. The minute I saw his face I knew he was meant to be in my household and even lived in my dorm room for several months at MSU. (6th Floor McDonald Hall to be exact) If anything can come from this as I see people feeding their dogs during event please think twice and research bloat. We had taken every precaution including special bloat bowls and elevated feeders prior to this event. Sometimes things just happen. There is still a huge hole in my heart for Homer J and I know that he is watching over Colby, Brie and I everyday. Go hug your dogs and cherish every minute you have with them as you never know what tomorrow will hold.
Ok I will stop being sappy!!
Here is the link for his video for those of you that did not get to see it the first time.
