Is the Outdoor Show the same as the Pet Expo at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids? Does anyone have information on this event? Is it an indoor event? Long Dock Event?

Nope, the Outdoor Show is at Devos place in Downtown Grand Rapids. It is Long dock like 43-45 feet of long dock into the biggest indoor pool that I have ever seen that is not in the ground. It is big enough they put a bass boat and a pontoon boat in it every year and their is still 3/4 of the pool left.

The dock is not Milts normal dock it is a actually dock like you would put in a real lake. The nice part about their dock is it is springier than all get out, this is the event that most dogs set personal bests at. This is also a huge event, probably the biggest and most attended indoor event I have ever been to.

I can also tell you it is always one of the coldest indoor events you could ever attend.

Thanks for the info!! Does anyone know if Milt has an event at the pet expo (Delta Plex) in Grand Rapids for 2009. Was there one there last year?

Milt will post events as he books them. So if it isn't listed on the 2009 events page it usually means he does not have contract yet.

Just watch out that the dock doesn't have the rails like the normal dock and its been known to happen that the handler doesn't realize how close to the end they are... Just kidding! or you get wet. You make me laugh ti


But definitely a very fun event. The pools has lots of fish in it as well as the boats mentioned by Phoenix. But as she also said, the crating area is a loading dock and can be quite cold.

Ahhh yes, let's not forget about the fish! (instert fish smily here! ha)Connor always has to think it through- when he first jumps in, he thinks his toy has sunk so he swims in circles. He figures it out.....usually. Ultimate Air Elation It is funny though to watch some dogs go crazy over the fish. I know that I sure wouldn't swim if those huge fish were near me! Golly Gee!

i remember last year mikey was all set to dive under after one of those trout he tried stoping mid air. the sport show is a lot of fun for any one who hasnt been to it just remember to figure on paying for parking and finding a spot during working hours can be a bit of a challenge

Ya 2008 was the year of us trying to make it to events and didn't. I think we planned 6 or 7 different events and only made it to 2. Oh so Sad

With that said... 2009 will be different! :-D We already plan to go to Macomb, Novi and GR plus with Falon graduating (May) and working full time, everything will be better financially.

So. is this event in an entirely enclosed area? I have never been there. I am trying to understand why everyone says it's so cold. Don't they heat the place?

Also they were saying it is so cold as most of the crating area was in the "garage" of the building.

The crating area was in the shipping/receiving area in back so while it was heated it was still chilly. Also, indoor events are cold because the water is cold. Once you get wet you are also cold. I remember it not being too bad in the back but it was not warm either. The pool was on the floor of the show but the dogs were separated from it. Since it's not a pet show I think they didn't want the barking to add to the noise of the show. The pool was HUGE! The dock seemed to have some spring to it and dogs were jumping big.

Dogs always seem to jump big at the GR show... I think a lot of it has to do with "Lake Ultimate" being so large, along with the fact that the dock is slightly springy (the event staff puts up their own dock, the standard UAD docks have never been used for this event). The first year was much colder... as there was no heater in the shipping/leading section... but it still soaked some heat through the walls/doors to the main area. Then they added a heater mounted to the ceiling for the next year... and it was quite hot for awhile. Hopefully there is a happy medium this time around.

I will take a mat this year to put under the crates and blankets to put over them to help keep them warm. It was chilly last year. It was also a hike to take them out to do their business.
