No pics yet but I have to say this puppy is tough! He is so hard to handle it's not even funny, well ok it's really funny.... The biggest problem I have had with him in my one day of puppy time is keeping him awake and on all 4 feet. He is so darn cute and cuddly. He really is such a sweetheart and a huge clown. I took him to my office yesterday after I got back from St Louis and everyone just fell in love with him. He is so funny, if you stop moving with him, he just lays down and goes to sleep. We've got a ton of pics to post, and I will put them up tonight. We got power back at 9:45 last night.

BTW,

The tentative name is "Leo". That's short for Galileo - remember we were going to stick with the Team Rocketdog theme. We will try it for a few days and see how it goes. It's so hard not to just pick him up and cuddle with him everytime I see him. Thanks so much to everyone involved in getting him to us. He is going to be one very spoiled and well socialized puppy for sure.

Rocky is a little annoyed that Leo keeps taking his frisbee when he brings it back (Rocky does just give it to him though) and Newman is trying to explain to him what personal space is. Rocky and Leo were playing tug yesterday in the yard with a rope toy and Rocky was VERY good about not trying to rip Leo's head off. I have a few pics of that. Rocky did make Leo take header when they were playing though. Leo isn't exactly coordinated anyway and he trips over his HUGE feet often. Our boys are very used to having other dogs in the house since we have fostered for the last 5 years or so. Rocky gets jealous and Newman just ignores them. They are doing well together.

Alisa - I am doing fine. Monday night/Tuesday morning were not my finest hours, but with power back on, hubbie home and Leo settling in - I am much better.

He really is just a goofy little puppy. Everyone is doing good at our house and I will be better once I get my house put back together.

Look for lots of pics this weekend and next week, once we all get settled.

I do pick him up and cuddle a lot. He is very sweet and very cuddly. I am sooo glad we got him. He is going to make a great little brother for Rocky and Newman. Of course, Rocky is convinced we don't love him anymore and has already had a few temper tantrums. He will adjust though. He does this whenever we bring home a dog that is younger and gets a lot of attention. Leo is a very good puppy though so I think his training wil be pretty easy. He seems to have a very good idea about only going potty outside (haven't had an accident indoors yet - knock on wood). He still doesn't like to be put in his crate and left, but that will come with time. He will walk in on his own though. He's very smart so I think he will catch on quickly.

Trust me, when you meet him at River Days you will just want to snuggle him! The best part is that he doesn't mind if you do.

He has his moments, but as a puppy he has been pretty easy so far. He entertains himself, plays well with the big dogs, and doesn't wander off when out in the yard. So far so good.

We are going to weigh him tonight to see if he is putting on weight. He eats like a horse, I can barely get the food bowl on the floor before he dives in.

Well, he was 17 lbs. 2 oz. when I weighed him just before he left. A Round of Applause! So, I will be anxious to see what he is at now. He wasn't a real great eater when I got him, but living with the Blabs must have taught him that if you snnoze, you loose. Oink!

We just weighed him and he is 19 lbs. He is a very eager eater. Rocky is a big food hound too and tries to be the first one done. I can see those two racing to see who can eat all their food first.

Two things we have noticed:
1. He poops in his crate almost everytime we put him in it. He pooped in it when I took a shower this morning (~10 mins) and just about everytime we have left him for the day in it. I think it may be a stress reaction, any ideas?
2. He HATES being left in his crate. It's almost like a separation anxiety, so we will see how it goes. He is VERY young and I remember Rocky not liking his crate but I don't remember him having a reaction like Leo. Leo will scream and bark for an hour non-stop until he finally tires himself out and falls asleep. It may just be a phase and he will grow out of it. He hasn't been here very long yet so it's still all new to him. He's just so darn cute you can't stay mad at him for more than about a second.

At 8 weeks sounds like no one has worked with him not going in there...maybe left unattended to long and he now thinks it is the place to go....Or he might just work himself up enough about being in their he looses control due to nerves.

Bo didnt like his crate much at first so I use to leave it open a lot and put his favorite toys in there. Also I would treat him every time he went into it and say kennel. He still doesnt love the kennel but tolerates it for events

He sure looks like a cute boy.....It was hard not to adopt the Malenoa (sp) I saw at the show this weekend to.

Try giving him a frozen Kong filled with peanut butter. By the time he is finished getting all the PB out he should be ready to sleep.

You've never seen this little chow hound eat! He is very energetic when eating. I've never seen a puppy that is that eager to eat! I'm not sure about giving the puppy peanut butter, we are trying to keep his poop from getting messy. We will have to see how he does with PB a little at a time before we go all out... He is getting better, at least that's what Kristy says. I've only been around him for a few days. She had a good 3 day head start so she really knows how he is progressing. It's a phase I'm sure. He will work thru it and we will forget about it. I do remember Rocky not being too keen on his crate when we first brought him home. The difference was we had a good week of being home all day to get him used to us and hte house before we left him alone all day.

Now wait a minute there, Thom. What you talkin' abo We had him for several weeks and worked very hard with him. Not that he didn't need more training, but we definitely started it! Exclamation You should have seen him before! Oops!

I could definitely see him getting worked up enough to go, however. Just kidding! The other issue we had is that he was so lazy outside, that it was hard to get him to go out there. We found that he likes his privacy for doing #2, but that may have all changed now. Hot Dawg

Alisa is right - he has a lot of training started A Round of Applause!

We think we are starting to get him figured out. He only potties in a crate if he is left in there too long (while we are at work - which is too be expected). He whines in a crate at night to go out to go potty. And he sleeps really well in crate (unless he has to go potty). He really is coming along fabulously, we just needed some time to get him settled.

He is fine being handled and having his toenails trimmed. He loves all people and the dogs in the neighborhood. Alisa, Scott and all of Team Blabador did a fantastic job with him. He is just a puppy that needs time. I hate to type it, but he really is a pretty easy puppy.

I always put the puppies crate in the bedroom at night so he/she didn't feel so far away from their human mom. As they got older I would move the crate further away from the bed and then gradually out of the room....and so on.
