Wearing a harness on the dock? Empty Wearing a harness on the dock?

Post by Labwake Sun May 18, 2008 6:32 pm

I was wondering if Connor can jump in his walking harness? It’s not his running harness, so it’s not loose....it fits around his body and nothing is hanging off. The only reason I ask this is because I changed my throwing method. Instead of putting Connor at a heel, throwing the toy, and then releasing him, I now put him in a sit stay, walk to the end and throw it as he comes. (I don’t remember what the technical name is). Anyway, he would be wearing a harness so that my mom could hold him in a stay while I walk to the end....it’s easier for her to hold him by the harness than just by the collar. We’ve tried it at home and it works pretty well.

Just let me know if that's breaking any rules....any answers would be helpful! Ultimate Air Elation

I am sure more people will pipe in here. I don't know if there are "rules" about it or not, but Kel has been using the Hamilton harnesses on her dogs. I think the bigger concern is choke or pinch collars. Tag issues are in the care of the pool, they could tear the lining. I would think it will be fine to jump in it.

There are "rules" for UKC sanctioned events. A body harness will be ok, so long as it fits properly. Head harnesses, training collars, etc. are not permitted.

Here's the pertinent section in the UKC rules:

1. Collars. Chain collars, Fancy collars (such as collars with sequins or buttons etc.), studded, or “pinch” or “prong” collars, head harness, or any type of special training collars are prohibited in the competition area. Collars must properly fit the dog and be approved by the Judge. Collar tags or other items hanging from the collar are prohibited in the competition area. Neither is it permissible for a dog to wear a scarf or bandanna, caps, sunglasses, etc.

Does that mean if I ever find blinders for Jake (so he doesn't see the crowd) he can't wear them? Archives Snickering
