Lola won her UKC Lure Coursing title today! She loves this game. Next we have to get 12 more legs and she earns her "excellent".
She is the first Spanish Water Dog to achieve this. There were many 'first' breeds this weekend. It was great to see all the breeds trying it. The courses are between 500 and 600 yards and are different everyday.
So gald we found a game my girl likes. Lureing first 67730

Sight Hound (and All Breed) Lure Coursing is done by a judge who looks at the natural ability and how interested the dog is in the lure. The Sight Hounds usually do a longer course than all other breeds. You have to have three legs under at least 2 different judges to title. To get to the next level (Excellent) you need another 12 legs.
Basically if the dog finsihes the course they get a leg. It was fun to see all the non Sight Hounds chasing the Lure - Dobs, Bit Bulls, Mastiffs, GSP, Rotty......you can go to UKC's web site to get all the rules.

Lola did awesome!! I've never seen her so worked up to do something---her legs were all shaking and she couldn't stop yipping waiting to go!!! She had to have been one of the fastest dogs out there. Lola has definitely found her calling and she LOVES it--you should see the slap-happy grin on her face when she's chasing the lure! She's one of the most fun dogs to watch on the course.

Oskar got his title too and was the first GSP to get the title. The old man had a blast....he wasn't so good on the turns as Lola but he never stopped chasing the lure. I tried Axel on saturday too and he got a leg towards his title as well!

They all did a great job, it was a fun weekend, and we'll definitely be looking for more lure events in the future!

Gomer (Oskar) had a big smile on his face as he chased the pastic bags and 'tail'!! He did seem to like the long straight sections of the run better than the turns. And when he got to the end he just looked at the bags and seemed to say - "thats what I was chasing? Huh! Wonder why!!!"

Belle will be INSANELY jealous! She would have loved to get a lure title! Last year at the Premier, she ran the course the sight hounds were doing. At the end the sight hound people came up to us and said "that's a nice lab!". LOL she loves lure coursing. Don't know she will be able to again, time will tell.

We love lure coursing. The JRTs have all done it. Although little Shella got smart and will not chase the lure past the first corner.. SHe turns back and waits for it to come back around!
