Lupine collars Empty Lupine collars

Post by jtallen Mon Feb 25, 2008 7:33 pm

Rogan has taken it upon herself to free Molly from her collars. drown

She has chewed off 2 collars so far, so we bought a Lupine collar as they are "Guarenteed".

WELL

1 week after we put it on her Rogan silly had chewed the clasp and freed Molly again. :bigcry:

Any ideas on what kind of collar might stand up to her chewing huh?

I just bought a collar from http://www.dublindog.com/ and so far I'm very happy with it. They were recomended to me by a lady who does a lot of rescue work. I don't think they're specifically made to be chew proof but people have found that they are (they're made from a very thick durable rubbery plastic kinda like a Kong, not exactly, but that's all I can think of for comparison) ... they're also water proof and stink proof which is why I got one Sweet!

All I can say is.. Welcome to the club !! Shella is doing the same darn thing to the boys. The only thing is she doesn't distroy the collar. She just gets them undone if they are the flat buckels.. I can't figure out how she does it.

Abe's sister, Piper, got the collar of her housemate Elvis off. Embarassed Then, rumor has it, she forced him to eat it whole Mad Dog (evidenced by the fact that Elvis vomited it up in it's entirety a few days later What you talkin' abo ). At least that is the story Elvis is sticking to! I'll Never Tell

The collars that sponsor Team Triple Threat are VERY sturdy! bigthumb

Other than collars you would not want to leave on (ie. metal slip or semi-slip) I know of none that are truely chew-proof. Best solution we have found is to smear in something to the fibers of a sacrificial collar that the chewer hates. Na Na
Some dogs hate full strength lemon, most hate full strength vinegar. I never knew a dog to like a paste of alum (the white powder stuff used for pickling found in the grocery spice area). Perhaps it would be easier to soak the collar in pickle juice for a minute. Just be careful not to irritate the skin of the dog wearing the collar.
Of course there are also the commercial preparations. $$

Trinity does this, too, but she unbuckles collars. She can only
do plastic buckles, however, so metal buckle collars fixed this for
us. (The kinds like a belt, not the metal ones that are built the
same as the plastic ones that work like a seat belt thingy.)
She's a master, though. I once actually witnessed her do it to a
friend's dalmatian. Took all of one quick move and less than a
second. She then chews up the collar for fun.

We also use the Blocky Dogs collars that Team Triple Threat are sponsored by. They are amazing and really sturdy. Although I'm not sure you'd want to spend the money if there's even going to be an attempt made at eating it lol. Our boys wear their's everywhere and they are standing up great!

I will check everything out. We do have challenge with Rogan Mad Dog .
She also destroyed Molly's invisible fence receiver drool - had that replaced about a month ago. She doesn't chew the collar -she eats the plastic snap, so a collar with a metal clasp might be the answer.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
