So Double JJ resort here in the Muskegon area has gone out of business. 93+ horses will be up for auction along with all the sled dog teams and other farm animals. I have the catalog list if anyone wants more info let me know. Auction will be Thursday on site and online.

I am pleased to see many of the horses have bids on them through the online bid option. But very few of the dogs do. :-( I am willing to help with transport for anyone who is interested in the dogs. I can also honestly say not many of the dogs actualy look pure bred.

I am watching the couple dogs sleds they have. They have 3 up for auction! And a couple goats :-)

I'd say the good majority of sled dogs aren't purebred... most are usually Alaskan Huskies, which isn't really a distinct or recognized breed (and it's kept that way purposefully). Most are generally recognized by lines, rather than breed. Hopefully Annie sees this thread... perhaps she can pass some of the info onto MUSH and see if anyone in the group may be interested in any of the dogs.

It says that you can either bid online or be on-site. Either way is fine.

I noticed some of the dogs' iffy habits, too... I think a lot of it may be due more to a lack of close/regular handling, more than anything. The large teams I know that are handled a lot as a group don't tend to have in-fighting problems. It also mentions issues with lice in some of the heavier coated dogs, and cites the heavy coats as the cause/reason for it. No, that would be a lack of regular grooming. You make me laugh ti I know it's time-consuming with a team that size... but, really now, don't just blame it on the dogs' natural coat.

Ha yeah I was gonna say the same thing. I'm beginning to LIKE the fact that Double JJ went under! It sounds like they had no business dealing with dogs anyway. I've had sibes for 10 years and have NEVER had lice on ONE dog and they all sleep outside in straw. It's not that hard to keep a dog clean! I've never seen such a small kennel with so many fighters though.....that's also a testament to the handling/training for sure. Sounds like every dog's been in a fight at least once.....that's a little off.
I've only seen the teams in action once, and they were deffinately "tour dogs"....slow, methodical, not a lot of spunk. I didn't think anything of it then. If someone wanted a steady "go-er" these would be the dogs, but I doubt they've ever seen dogs other than those in the kennel (i'm pretty sure they've ONLY ever done the loop around the lake....never leaving the property...... of course I could be wrong)

I wish we had room for one of them as I would take the last girl on the page of dogs. But at lass there is no room in the inn right now. Plus being 6 years old I am doubtfull of being able to bring her back from bad habits of fighting with other dogs.

Yeah if a sled mutt is what you want, you could find one with better manners and probably cheaper (not sure how much these guys are going for?) in many other places. Ultimate Air Elation

Okay, I'm having major problems....I can't figure out how to bid. I'm interested in the rigs. I'd love to have the one for rides...looks like it could seat about 6+driver (and would possibly buy the other one listed with it, depending on price). How do I find the price and how do I even bid?! Please help...hope I'm not too late.

Maybe it'd be worth contacting one of the Husky rescue groups in the area? Onnx Husky Rescue, for example, is located in Grand Rapids. Close to Home Animal Advocates is also in MI, and does rescue for several "nordic" breeds. They are located in Belleville.

Annie, I'm not sure how to bid... didn't take a close enough look yet. Maybe Beth can help you out there since she was interested in some of the goats and a sled. Also, maybe if you contacted them (I believe I saw some contact info some place on there), you could probably inquire about gang lines, harnesses, etc. My guess is that they'd be happy to sell those too if they haven't already.

On the link that has the catalog with pictures on it there is a spot that says online bidding and you can click on that. There is a pretty long registration process and they need to verify your bank account before bidding too! Hope that helps!

No one gets anything as one person bid on the ENTIRE thing and got it ALL for $150,000 all the dogs,horses, cows, etc, Angry Dog makes me sad. I don't think those dogs will get better lives now...

No, not the whole ranch, but everything that was in the "catalog". The vehicles, farm equipment, horses, cattle, goats, dogs, carriages, sleds... all taht stuff. At least it appears taht way. The ranch itself may go up on auction later, or they might just try to sell it, I haven't heard anything on that yet.
